Sutton & Cheam Conservatives have chosen their parliamentary candidate for the 2015 General Election. At a special general meeting of the local membership, Marie Grant, Association Chairman announced that Paul Scully, a local business owner who has lived and raised his family in Sutton for 25 years has been selected and officially adopted as the Conservative Party’s prospective MP ahead of the 2015 General Election.
Paul Scully is a former councillor here in Sutton and has more than 15 years’ worth of experience running his own business.
Mr Scully said his campaign priorities would be:
• Making Sutton & Cheam a thriving place for business
• Protecting healthcare services to ensure that the local St Helier hospital is put on a steady footing
• Securing enough school places for the Borough’s children
He also takes an active role in the community as a governor at SCOLA, Stanley Park High School and The Federation of Victor Seymour Infants’ School and Children’s Centre in Carshalton. He was also a part of the Conservative Party’s Project Maja and in September 2011 spent time refurbishing a school in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
Mr Scully said: “I have lived the whole of my adult life in Sutton, raising my family here. My children were both born in St Helier hospital in the very maternity unit that is earmarked to be moved to Tooting. I’ll fight tooth and nail to keep maternity and A&E services local. My children have both attended Sutton schools. Being local is more than having an address in the area. I shop in the same shops, take the same trains and drive on the same roads as residents across the constituency. We care about the same things and if elected I will work tirelessly for residents, giving Sutton & Cheam a strong voice in Westminster to ensure that national policies help solve local problems.”

Residents will have another chance to collect free grit for the winter.
The original scheme, which ran over three weekends (10/11, 17/18 and 24/25 November), has had a fourth weekend added. It means that on 15/16 of December grit will be available from B&Q in Carshalton Road, Sutton, where visitors can also get 10 per cent off the price of a snow shovel while they are there, Woodcote Green Garden Centre & Nurseries in Woodmansterne Lane, Kimpton Park Way Reuse and Recycling Centre and The Mount in Clockhouse.
At Kimpton Park Way residents have to bring their own container for the grit, but you can log on to www.sutton.gov.uk/kimptonwebcam to check if there is a queue before you go
In order to claim your free grit you will need to bring your council tax bill or a current utility bill. And anyone who wants to help a neighbour can bring along one of their bills and collect the grit on their behalf.
Residents who currently receive an assisted bin collection can have the grit delivered to them. Simply call 020 8770 5070 for details. Each household can again collect 10kg of grit to use on footpaths, pavements or roads in front of their homes.
For details on how to use the grit go to www.sutton.gov.uk/gritting.
Opening Times:

Vote For A Better Stonecot – Vote Graham Jarvis
Stonecot Ward is holding a by-election next Thursday following a Lib Dem councillor quitting his post to take up another job. Local Conservatives have been out campaigning for a stronger and more independent voice for the Stonecot area to sit on the Council, rather than just another inexperienced Lib Dem Yes Man to toe the party line.
Former university lecturer and online journalist Graham Jarvis has stepped up to fight for the area as the Conservative candidate – for more information see here.
London MEP Marina Yannakoudakis joined us to spread the word that Stonecot and Sutton deserves a fresh face and a free thinker like Graham Jarvis. For more information on Marina, visit her website.
The Lib Dem councillor’s resignation is the latest in a stream of Lib Dems quitting their ranks, following a defection to Labour and the Green Party, and a councillor quitting his post only six months after taking it up. Residents tell us that this shows a lack of commitment to our area. The Green candidate for Stonecot is a former Lib Dem councillor who was elbowed out of her council seat at the last election!
Residents complain to us that they feel Stonecot’s Lib Dem councillors are Yes Men who put the party line before local people. Stonecot Ward will get its chance to vote for a fresh faced and independent minded local campaigner on Thursday.
Remember, don’t just hope for a better Stonecot, vote for a better Stonecot
