Sutton & East Surrey Water are consulting on their five year plan
Sutton and East Surrey Water invites customers to have their say about its five-year Business Plan. The business plan explains how the Company will continue to achieve this and its goals far into the future.
Most importantly, it asks for your comments. According to the website, the document and other initiatives they are currently taking represent the most comprehensive effort they have ever made to consult with customers and stakeholders before submitting their business plan to Ofwat (their regulator) in December.
The plan is open to consultation until 7th October and can be viewed on the company’s website.

International Older People’s Day Friday 4th October
International Older People’s Day is on Friday 4th October 2013 at the Europa Gallery, Sutton Central Library, between 10.30am and 1.30pm. There will be exercise and musical taster sessions and volunteering and employment opportunities. Special Guest is Esther Rantzen CBE.
Tea and coffee will be FREE and alternative refreshments can be purchased from The Coffee Shop in the Library, The Oasis Café in Trinity Church, Sutton and at Sherwood’s Cafe in SCILL, Robin Hood Lane.

A new service to cut stress and red tape when reporting the death of a loved one has been adopted by Sutton Council.
The new service will mean from 7 October residents only have to contact the local Registrar’s office once to report a death. The service will make it easier and quicker for everyone.
A spokesman for Sutton Council said: “In the past, residents have had to tell lots of different people about their life events, often at stressful times when it’s the last thing they need.
“Tell Us Once is designed to take the extra stress away from residents, saving them time and effort, whilst helping keep records up-to-date across all departments in the council.
“Nobody’s information will be shared without their permission, and we will only
be informing relevant public sector organisations which residents would previously have had to contact themselves.”
Currently residents have to register the death with the Registrar, then after purchasing several copies of the death certificates they contact several other separate council departments – such as council tax, housing benefits and the electoral roll and the Department for Works and Pensions. Now you can minimise your time and efforts dealing with others.
Under the new Tell Us Once service you will only have to notify the Registrar, who – with permission – will then pass the right information to the relevant council departments and other public sector service providers, such as the Department for Work and Pensions, the Identity and Passport Service and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.
The project is set to go live at the start of October to coincide with National Customer Services Week which starts on Monday 7 October 2013.

Let us have a fit for purpose leisure centre in the west of the borough
Cllr Graham Whitham, Cheam Ward and Conservative Group Leader in a letter to the editor of the Sutton Guardian, writes:
“I readily understand S W Mallin’s concern over improvements at Cheam Leisure Centre (Pool needed, 29th August). The health aims he advocates have been part of the full business case the Conservative group asked for at the last council meeting rather than the council continuing its patch repair programme of the centre.
We asked for the council to set up a project board to report on the best options for the site incorporating other existing uses and making more effective use of the footprint occupied by the centre.
The Liberal Democrats, rather than take a complete view of the facility, just laughed at and derided the suggestion.
The reality is that they are hell bent on completing yet another series of expensive repairs to have a grand re-launch in time for the council elections next May”.
