This afternoon I was pleased to be elected by fellow MPs to the International Development Select Committee.
I am looking forward to working to ensure our International Development programme works hand-in-hand with opportunities for international trade, tackles factors that contribute to global insecurity and migration, and continues to lead the way in meeting our responsibility as a leading world economy.
We have immediate pressures like Syria, but also ongoing concerns like drug-resistant malaria and the effects of climate change across Bangladesh and Burma.
I hope that I can help to ensure that we continue to lead the world in disaster relief and humanitarian aid, but also that people in Sutton and across the UK see value for money and the support going directly to those most in need.
